For the second time in a row Yiorgos Tsakiris was elected to head the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels. The election for the chamber’s new Board of Directors took place 22-23 September 2013.

“The members of the new Board of Directors of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels have given us the go-ahead to continue, with all our forces, the battle for the promotion and development of the Greek hotel industry, the upgrade of the Greek tourism product and – ultimately – to lead the country out of the recession,” the chamber’s president said referring to his re-election.

“This command is an obligation for the new executive committee and myself,” Mr. Tsakiris said.

The newly-elected Board of Directors will take office on 15 January 2014.

Fanny Nunner-GrammatikouThe press and public relations manager of the Greek National Tourism Organization office in Vienna, Austria, Fanny Nunner-Grammatikou, is leaving her position at the organization.

“After 10 years of my service at the GNTO in Vienna, it’s time to say goodbye,” she said in her farewell message to her associates and friends in Greece in which she thanked all for their cooperation and assistance for the promotion of Greek tourism.

Ms. Nunner-Grammatikou describes her experience at the GNTO and promoting Greek tourism as “invaluable,” despite crises and difficult times.

I am honored to have served the most beautiful country in the world with all my strength. I met people who shared my love for Greece and conscientiously showed care to meet the challenges of the times under difficult conditions,” she said.

“As a Greek living abroad 30 years in Austria, my job was easy because in this country, the love of Austrians for Greece was always noticeable,” she concluded.

GTP wishes Ms. Nunner-Grammatikou the best of luck in her future endeavors.

Greek Yachting Professionals Form New Association

GYA_LogoA number of Greek yachting professionals involved in the Charter, Brokerage, Management, Insurance and Construction of large yachts recently announced the establishment of the Greek Yachting Association (GYA).

Currently the association and its members represent over 90 percent of the crewed charter yachts in Greece under central agency agreement.

Nafplion, Greece, To Host Yacht Show In May 2014

The GYA has also announced that it will hold a new luxury yacht charter show named the “Mediterranean Yacht Show” in the historic town of Nafplion, Greece, from 3 to 7 May 2014. The yacht show will be open to both Greek and foreign flag charter yachts.

Greek airline representation company Intermodal Air has announced the appointment of Antonis Rossolatos as the company’s new commercial director.

A very familiar personality to the airline industry, Mr. Rossolatos, has worked for over 20 years in positions including commercial, sales, marketing and finance in Air France and Air France-KLM for the markets of Greece and Cyprus.

Mr. Rossolatos supported and actively led the Air France KLM merger, including full integration of the teams, harmonization of commercial policies, joint ventures, code shares, joint contracts, revenue increases and cost saving plans.

Intermodal Air, established in 1986, is located in Athens and holds the General Sales representation in Greece for Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines, Copa Airlines, Blue Panorama, Sri Lankan, Cubana.

SETE’s new general manager, Alexandros Lamnidis.

The Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) has announced the appointment of Alexandros Lamnidis as new general manager. Mr. Lamnidis is also the general manager of the newly established SETE Institute (InSETE).

He replaces George Drakopoulos, who has left the association after 20 years in service.

“Mr. Drakopoulos’ contribution to SETE’s growth and establishment was highly significant over the last 20 years. We want to thank him for his offered services, knowledge and faith to the Association and wish him every success in his future endeavours,” SETE’s president, Andreas Andreadis, said in an announcement.

According to Mr. Andreadis, 2014 will be a year in which SETE will accelerate innovation.

Through a collective cooperation with both INSETE and private marketing company for Greek tourism “Marketing Greece,” Mr. Andreadis believes that SETE will achieve its goals and offer more support to the State through its role as social partner.

“With his experience, entrepreneurial thinking and insight, I am certain that Mr. Lamnidis will lead SETE to fulfill all its objectives,” SETE’s president concluded.

It is reminded that InSETE’s scientific director is Aris Ikkos and administrative director is Yiorgos Amvrazis.

Furthermore, Xenophon Petropoulos is in charge of the coordination and communication of SETE and INSETE. He was previously SETE’s communications and public relations manager.

Three-Michelin-starred chef Michel del Burgo has brought his talents to the kitchen of Spondi restaurant in Athens, Greece.

Athenian restaurant Spondi, of the Trasteli Group, is a two-Michelin star restaurant known for its highly creative gastronomy. It has been housed in a neoclassical building in the Pagrati neighborhood since 1996.

Etihad Airways Appoints Senior Vice President Sales

Etihad_Mueller_2_1Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has appointed James Mueller to the new position of Senior Vice President Sales.

With more than 20 years’ experience in the aviation industry, Mr. Mueller joins Etihad Airways from United Airlines, where he worked for five years in various senior roles, including Vice President Asia Pacific and Vice President Atlantic and Pacific Sales.

Prior to this, he was employed for more than 15 years at Northwest Airlines/Delta Airlines, where his final position was Vice President Cargo Sales.

His appointment follows the recent unveiling of the Etihad Aviation Group, a new structure marking the transition of Etihad Airways from a single airline to a wider global aviation and travel group. The structure, headed by James Hogan as Group President and Chief Executive Officer, includes the core airline and a separate division to coordinate and manage Etihad’s subsidiaries, joint venture companies and equity partners.

EtihadMr. Mueller will initially report to Etihad Airways Chief Commercial Officer Peter Baumgartner during the group structure’s transition phase.

After the transition, Baumgartner will assume his new role as Chief Operating Officer of the newly formed Hala Group, while Mueller will report to the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, a new position that has been created to oversee the day-to-day running of the core airline. Recruitment for this role is ongoing.

Reporting to Mr. Mueller are Etihad Airways Vice President Global Sales Daniel Barranger, Vice President UAE Hareb Al Muhairi, Vice President Commercial Strategy and Planning Adam Phillips, and Vice President Direct Sales Justin Warby.

“My interest in aviation extends beyond the 20 years I have spent in the industry, and it’s been hard to ignore the phenomenal growth of Etihad Airways since its launch,” Mr. Mueller said commenting on his new appointment.

“With the recent creation of the Etihad Aviation Group, there’s no doubt that future developments will be even more ambitious and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute by leading the ever-expanding sales functions of Etihad Airways,” he added.

SETESETE, founded in 1991, is the representative association for unions of tourism enterprises in Greece, as well as independent companies operating across the broader tourism sector.
